Growing up in the UK in the 70s and 80s wasn’t easy. If you were lucky enough to gain an apprenticeship, you were taught by the generation before, who had excellent morals and a great work ethic. This meant we had to learn quickly and to do the job correctly.

I personally was lucky enough to be an apprentice bricklayer; taught by a complete house builder. I was taught everything from the bottom to the top, in fact we poured our own foundations, built our own walls, plastered inside, and tiled the roof.  When I completed my apprenticeship I worked in a sub-contract gang building houses. That’s when you learn about morals and ethics.  You work, you get paid. It has stood the test of time within my career.

I was also brought up working with the family business, which has been around for 50+ years.  We have always renovated bathrooms for as long as I can remember. I even worked my school holidays learning to do this from the age of eleven.
